Magic Community Work Youtube Series

Gundula Stojanova Gruen, best known as 'Magic Violin', is a virtuoso violinist, singer, best-selling author, teacher, and ethnomusicologist with a decades-long strong career in Balkan and Eastern European music. She has founded and led multiple ensembles, including the London Gypsy Orchestra (2005-2015), the Balkan Village Band, Tatcho Drom, the Magic Violin String Trio, and the Bluebelle Jazz Trio. With such a trajectory, it's a bit hard to keep everything in order, and early this 2026, she decided that we should breathe new life into her online presence and build a presence that actually showcases her expertise, while maintaining the emotion and vibrance of her memories intact.

We decided to organize her presence into 4 main verticals: Professional performances, community ensembles, lessons and tutorials, and personality videos, aka, the ones that don't fit into any of the aforementioned categories but she'd still like to keep.

She has this whole side to her — this bright, quirky, community-driven heart. She’s colorful as hell, and I really didn't want to "clean her up" too much; instead, I wanted to use her vibrance and bottle that energy. For the community work and the Balkan Village Band sessions, we flipped the script.

We used a lot of paper-tear textures and a much sunnier, maximalist palette for the thumbnails. It’s intentionally different from her stage work because we didn't want to confuse the audience, but also because this work feels different. It’s about the joy of playing together in a village circle or a workshop. It’s messy in the best way. It’s a celebration of the ensemble life. It shows her as the mentor and the heartbeat of the group, not just the virtuoso violinist and singer.
